What is this project about?

Sally and Bryan had a real product and a real customer base — what they didn't have was a platform that actually fit how their business worked. Their existing Squarespace site was costing more than it should and couldn't do half of what they needed.

I built them a fully custom storefront and admin panel from scratch, starting with a fully automated pipeline to extract and transform requirements directly from their existing Squarespace platform — no lengthy discovery workshops, just structured, accurate input from day one.

The architecture uses Shopify Storefront API for checkout — keeping the payments and fulfilment infrastructure they already trust — while the frontend, backend, and admin tooling are fully custom, built for their specific workflows and significantly cheaper to run than a Squarespace subscription at scale.

Takeaway #1: 🤖 Requirements extraction can be automated

Most freelance projects start with weeks of back-and-forth before a single line of code is written. By automating the extraction of requirements from their existing platform, we skipped that entirely.

Structure the discovery process as an engineering problem, not a consultation process. The output is faster, more accurate, and less dependent on the client's ability to articulate what they already have.
